Baldur DSL1

from $650.00
sold out

Finally a stand-alone aftermarket ECU for the Mercedes Benz OM606 and OM605 EDC engines. Minimal wiring necessary, reducing the headache of doing an engine swap. Tuned by laptop, no messing with chips.
Introduced in 2014 and extensively tested in 2015 on multiple vehicles. Now also supports VP37 injection pumps as found on OM602.980 engines as well as countless VW and BMW applications.

Package contents:

  • DSL1 electronic control unit

  • 6 pin mini-fit jr connector

  • 8 pin mini-fit jr connector

  • 24 pin mini-fit jr connector

  • Crimp contacts for connectors

  • 1.5 metre USB A-B cable

Specifications:

  • 32 bit microcontroller

  • External dimensions 115x106x46mm

  • Fuelling at any engine speed indepentently adjustable.

  • Configurable hard engine speed limiting.

  • Fuel limiting based on charge air pressure (boost)

  • Overcurrent protection for rack solenoid

  • Pedal position error detection and override

  • Rack solenoid operation error detection and override

  • Tach output to drive a rev counter intended for any number of cylinders

  • Cruise control

  • Water/methanol or nitrous control strategy

  • User configurable fuel limit functions, can be used as launch control rev limiters, traction control, EGT safety, etc.

  • Calibration switch input offers ability to have two sets of maps installed to switch between while driving

  • Turbo boost control for any PWM operated pressure or vacuum solenoid, wide frequency range. Suitable for wastegated as well as VGT turbochargers.

  • Turbo boost strategy based on requested fuel quantity, allows for maximum fuel efficiency when properly calibrated

  • Glow heating relay control with programmable pre-start and after-start heating duration depending on engine temperature

  • CAN 2.0 bus for interfacing with peripherals such as transmission control, dash displays, VGT actuators or sensor interfaces. Internal 120Ω termination by default, can request unterminated CAN bus at time of order if unit will not be an end node on the CAN bus. Data rates configurable from 125kbit to 1000kbit. Fully user definable CAN transmission and reception formats.

  • OBD2 over CAN bus, enables use of OBD2 compatible aftermarket equipment such as gauges, displays and scan tools

  • Native USB connection. No USB-232 converter or associated hassle.

  • Data logging at over 50Hz standard via USB to computer running calibrator software

  • Internal data logging memory option on purchase time with real time clock for time stamping of log files. Up to 100Hz data logging rate. Units without this option may be returned to have this option fitted at any time for a small fee. With this option, data logs can be recorded by the controller when no laptop is connected and retrieved later, otherwise a laptop must be connected to record logs.

  • 8 user configurable outputs for any purpose

  • 2 year parts+labor warranty

  • Unit may be returned for reconfiguration of purchase time options after purchase time

  • Additional:

  • Plug and Play adapter wiring harness is a must have if you are not ready to tackle making your own harness adapter from OEM car plug to the DSL1. Save tons of time, hassle, and headaches.

  • This adaptor allows the DSL1 ECU to be wired into a W210, W202, G-wagen or Sprinter that comes standard equipped with an OM605, OM606 or OM602.98x engine without requiring modification to the car's wiring harness, plugging into the 55 pin connector used by the standard ECU.

Includes 25cm long harness between the adaptor and the DSL1 unit.

The DSL1's programmable outputs are wired as following:

    1. OEM pin 14, tachometer on older non-CAN based W202 models, unused on others.

    2. OEM pin 11, unused on most cars, intake manifold valve on some naturally aspirated models.

    3. OEM pin 52, unused on most cars, intake manifold valve on some naturally aspirated models.

    4. OEM pin 49, unused on most cars, transmission pressure modulator valve on early cars with 722.3/722.4 transmission

    5. OEM pin 53, wastegate control solenoid

    6. OEM pin 34, unused on most cars, transmission kick down solenoid on early cars with 722.3/722.4 transmission

    7. OEM pin 43 via P-MOSFET, shut off solenoid control (output must be on to open shut off solenoid)

    8. OEM pin 17, starter relay control on cars equipped with electronic ignition switch.

The DSL1's spare inputs are wired as following:

    • Analog in 4: OEM pin 21, MAF sensor signal (typically unused as the DSL1 does not rely on the MAF sensor)

    • Analog in 5: Cruise control switches multiplexed inputs from OEM pins 8, 27, 31, 38, 42 and 44

    • Analog in 6: OEM pin 40, Inlet air temperature signal (typically unused as the DSL1 does not require this sensor)

    • Digital in 1: OEM pin 1, needle lift sensor on OM602.98x cars with VP37 injection pump.

    • Wheel speed input: OEM pin 25, used for wheel speed in early cars that do not have the wheel speed on the CAN network, unused in others.

Can be used with older 2-plug DSL1 units (serial numbers less than 200) as well but requires a slightly modified harness between the DSL1 and the adaptor to compensate for the missing third connector. Specify at order time if you have an older unit and a modified patch harness will be supplied. The modified harness has the following crossed connections:

    • DSL1 output 1 goes to glow output on adaptor (6p pin 4)

    • DSL1 output 2 goes to shut off output on adaptor (6p pin 5)

    • DSL1 output 3 goes to start relay output on adaptor (6p pin 6), only necessary on cars with EIS

    • DSL1 output 4 goes to turbocharger control solenoid output (6p pin 2)

  • *****Plug and Play Harness is highly recommended******
